A Hoodoo Starter Kit for the Ones Coming Back to the Tradition

This post is for a specific person. You grew up around the work even if nobody named it. A grandmother who kept her peace a certain way, a mama who swept toward the door, an auntie who knew things. Now you are grown, the pull is back, and you are wondering where to start. Hoodoo is a closed practice that belongs to Black American lineage, and I wrote about what that means in Why Hoodoo Is a Closed Practice. If it is yours to come back to, welcome back. Here is the kit.

The five pieces

1. A cleansing smoke. Everything starts clean. Clear The Air handles the house, and How to Use Incense for Spiritual Cleansing is the walkthrough.

2. A spiritual bath. The house is not the only thing carrying residue. Wash It Off plus How to Take a Spiritual Bath covers you.

3. A protection light. Clean space, covered space. My Grandmama Prayed For Me is the anchor, and every candle ships with its ritual card so the timing is never a guess.

4. A carried piece. The work should travel with you. Touch Not is our fixed protection hand, and What Is a Mojo Bag explains the rules that come with it.

5. Your family's Bible. Not for sale here or anywhere. The Psalms have carried this work for generations, and the Book that sat in your grandmother's house is the most powerful tool on this list. If it holds her handwriting in the margins, even better.

The first month

Cleanse the house first. Take the bath the same week. Set the protection once the space is clean. Then keep a rhythm, because this practice was never a one-time event in the households that raised us. It was Saturday cleaning and Sunday grace, week after week.

Go slow and go honest

You do not need everything at once, and you do not need to perform any of it online. Start with the piece your situation actually calls for, and if you are unsure which that is, What Candle to Burn For maps it. The coming-home teachings go out on the email list, at the bottom of this page.
