Guidance, not channeling: how the ancestors shape every batch, from the prayer before the pour to the numbers on the ritual cards.
Go to comments (2)People ask how the ancestors figure into what this shop makes, and the honest answer needs a correction first: they guide. I do not channel, I do not play medium, and God stays God in this house. What the ancestors do is simpler and steadier. They set the standard, and every product answers to it.
The prayer before the pour
No batch starts cold. The work opens with prayer, the names of my people in it, the same way every batch closes with a blessing before it ships, the full practice told in Blessing Every Batch. The fixing itself follows what was passed down, per Why We Fix Every Candle Before It Leaves Our Hand, which means hands long gone are still in the method.
The standard is a question
Every product decision runs through one filter: would the old folks recognize this as the work? A formula, a name, a practice on a ritual card, all of it gets held against that question. It has killed more than one clever idea, because clever and correct are different departments, and my grandmother Elise ran the second one. The reason lineage carries that authority is laid out in Why Lineage Is the Foundation of Hoodoo Practice.
The inheritance on the cards
The ritual cards in every box carry days, moon phases, and numbers, and none of that is decoration. The timing is the land calendar our farming people kept, and the numbers descend from the dream book culture covered in Divination in Hoodoo. When you work a card, you are working an inheritance with a supply chain three generations deep.
Keeping the relationship current
Guidance requires a standing appointment, and mine is the altar: water fresh, light tended, news reported, the practice from How to Set Up an Ancestor Altar. The shop decisions that matter get spoken there before they get made anywhere else. Some businesses have advisors. This one has elders, and their meeting room smells like a white candle.
Guided, not channeled, and grateful for it. The family practices go out on the email list at the bottom of this page.

Darcel, thank you for this beautiful question. I’m so glad you’re here. Our ancestors absolutely had systems for tending the body, mind and spirit through prayer, plant medicine, food, rhythm, community, and stillness.
