A money altar that is only pretty is a shelf. Mine has looked like a lot of things over the years, and the version I keep now is plainer than the ones I used to photograph. Here is how I set one up so it does its job.
Clear the surface first
Nothing gets set up in my house before the room is cleansed. I burn Clear The Air and carry the smoke through the room, then wipe the surface down. A dresser top or a shelf works. It does not have to be large. It has to be yours and it has to stay clean.
What goes on it
The candle. She Eats First is the money drawing candle in this house, worked under 888, the number of money that stays. If your road has been blocked, light Clear My Path first and let it finish before the money candle goes down. You cannot draw into a room with the door shut.
The oil. Open Hands dresses the candle before it is lit and goes on my palms before I touch money or sign anything. A little on the corners of the surface, a little on the wallet that sits there.
The money. Real currency, never a printout. A bill folded toward you and some coins. Money calls money in this tradition, and an altar with none on it is asking from empty.
The petition. Write the ask plain, in your own words, and set it under the candle. How to Write a Petition walks through it.
When I work it
Thursday is the money day in the tradition that raised me, and the waxing moon builds. I light the candle on a Thursday and speak the petition. If the week calls for it, I burn in sessions, snuffing rather than blowing out between sits. The ritual card in the box names the days and phases, so nothing is a guess.
Keeping it
Dust it and refresh the oil weekly. When the work is done, take the spent candle remains off the altar and bury them in the yard, or keep them tucked somewhere safe in the home, since this is drawing work. The altar is a working surface, and a working surface gets tended.
Do your part in the natural world while it burns. Send the invoice and make the call. The work meets effort.
