The threshold is where protection earns its keep. The old door practices, the verse, the smoke, and the light that stands at the entrance.
Everything that enters your home enters through a threshold, which is why the tradition has always worked its doors hardest. Painted porch ceilings, swept steps, scripture over the frame, a light at the entrance. This post is the front door routine, piece by piece.
The threshold in the tradition
Our people have guarded doorways for generations, and the most famous example is painted right onto the Lowcountry sky: the haint blue porch ceilings that keep restless spirits from crossing in, which I told in full in Haint Blue Porch Ceilings. The teaching underneath the paint is the point: the door is a boundary, and boundaries get worked on purpose.
The door routine
Swept. The steps and the threshold, regularly, sweeping outward. Trouble leaves with the dust, per the oldest practice in How to Clear Negative Energy From Your Home.
Smoked. The doorway gets the smoke last on cleansing day, sending what was cleared out and closing the door behind it. Clear The Air handles it.

Placement and plain safety
Near the door, visible, stable, and away from the coats and the curtains. A protection light guards the house, and the house still has to respect the flame. When a flame cannot live by your door, Don't Try Me wax melts hold the station without one.

The front door leads, and the back door, the garage door, and the windows that open follow the same logic in lighter doses: swept, smoked on rhythm, and covered. A house with worked thresholds feels different walking in. That is the whole test.
