Our Ritual Process: How Geechee Mama Candles Are Fixed

How Fixed Candles Are Made

Fixed candles are more than made. A fixed candle has been dressed, loaded, and prayed over for a particular purpose before it ever reaches you, the way the tradition has always prepared its tools. Every candle, oil, wax melt, spiritual bath, and mojo bag that leaves my table in Queens is fixed by hand, in small batches, in the Hoodoo tradition I was raised in.

1. The Assignment

Every piece starts with its purpose. Protection work is approached differently than love drawing, and money work calls for different roots than uncrossing. Nothing is poured until the assignment is clear.

2. The Roots

The herbs, roots, and minerals in this work are the ones Hoodoo has used for generations, chosen by traditional formula rather than by scent or looks. I source them with care and I keep the blends in-house, the same way they were kept in the houses that taught me.

3. The Fixing

This is the work itself. Fixed candles are hand-poured in coconut apricot wax, dressed with condition oils, and loaded with the roots their purpose calls for. Dressed candles carry the work in the wax, not just on the label. Oils are blended and set to steep so the roots can do their talking. Wax melts are fixed with the same hands and the same care as the candles. Mojo bags are packed and tied one at a time with what each working calls for.

4. The Prayer

Every piece is prayed over before it is packaged, with the prayers that came down through my family.

5. The Instructions

Every candle ships with its ritual card, so the work arrives ready for your hands. You do not need to be a practitioner. You need the card, your own words, and your own effort.

What Is a Fixed Candle?

A fixed candle is one prepared for a purpose by someone who carries the practice: dressed, loaded, and prayed over before the wick is ever lit. A plain candle is wax and fragrance. Fixed candles are the tradition's tools, and the difference is the preparation and the lineage standing behind them.

Dressed candles are the everyday form of the work: oil for the purpose, roots for the purpose, a prayer for the purpose, and a wooden wick that holds a steady flame. Each purpose has its own candle in this house. Clear My Path is the road opener, and Pull Up is the Come To Me candle for drawing love closer. Both are fixed the same way, by the same hands, with different roots for different work.

The fuller picture of the practice is laid out in What Is Hoodoo, and the burning side is covered step by step in How to Work a Fixed Candle.

What Comes With Fixed Candles

Every one of our fixed candles ships with its ritual card, and every candle order comes with a hand-sewn organza bag holding anointing oil and the small ritual tools that go with the work. The card names the best days and moon for that candle, what you will need on the table, the steps, how long to burn it, and what to do with the remains. Burn within sight, never while you sleep, and keep it away from children, pets, and anything that can catch.

Where to Start

Browse our fixed candles, or start from the work you need: protection, money drawing, love drawing, road opening, cleansing. The work meets your faith and your footwork, same as it always has.
