You lit the candle and went out and did your part. Then the waiting starts, and the question everybody brings me is how to know the work is moving. The old folks watched for signs after money work. They also kept count, and I do both.
Found Money
Small found money is usually the first thing people notice. A coin on the sidewalk. A bill in a coat pocket you haven't worn since spring. I read that as the road loosening, small money coming ahead of bigger money. I pick it up and say thank you. That Coin on the Ground goes deeper on reading it.
Money Coming In Sideways
The work rarely arrives through the door you were staring at. You wait on one client and a different one finds you by accident. Somebody you haven't heard from in two years calls with work. Money work likes a side door, so keep yours open and answer the phone.
Money Conversations Opening Up
Talking about money gets easier. The invoice that sat for sixty days gets paid early. The negotiation that was stuck suddenly has room in it. When the people who owe you start reaching out before you chase them, pay attention.
What Shows Up in Your Dreams
Dreams move during money work too. When your dreams start bringing money or plenty to your table, write them down as soon as you wake up, before the day takes them. The dream books Black households kept for generations gave those dreams numbers, and I wrote about that in Divination in Hoodoo.
Keeping Count
A found dime won't pay the light bill, so while the work is going I keep count. Write down what came in this month and where it came from, then hold it up against last month. When the signs and the numbers agree, the work is moving.
I do my count on the first of the month. That is when I sit down and see what the work has done.

Keep Doing Your Part
