A spiritual candle is a candle that has been prepared for a purpose. In Hoodoo we call this a fixed candle. Before it ever reaches your hands, it has been dressed with herbs and oils chosen for a specific kind of work, prayed over, and set apart. The wax and the wick are just the vessel. The fixing is what makes it spiritual.

Where fixed candles come from
Black Americans built and carried this tradition through slavery and after it, holding African ways together with scripture and working with the plants of this land. Candle work sits inside that tradition. Practitioners operated like apothecaries, preparing oils, roots, and lights for the people who came to them with a need. My grandmother did this work quietly in her home after she came north from Charleston, and everything Geechee Mama makes follows what was passed down. What fixed actually means
Fixing a candle means loading it with purpose. The wax is dressed with condition oils, herbs and roots go in for the specific work, scripture or prayer is spoken over it, and the candle is sealed to its assignment. Every maker holds their own methods close, and ours stay in-house, the same way a family recipe stays in the family. How a fixed candle differs from a scented candle
A candle from the home goods aisle is made to smell good and sit pretty on a shelf. A fixed candle carries an assignment. The fragrance is there, and ours smell beautiful, but the assignment comes first.
How to choose your first fixed candle
Start with the condition, meaning the situation in your life that needs work. Feeling watched or drained points to protection. Money leaving faster than it comes points to money drawing. Doors closing that should be open points to road opening.
